How I Learned to Love Waves CLA Guitars

Waves CLA Guitars has finally found its place in my workflow, and now I can’t live without it.

I was recently pulling up an older session in Logic that I did, and when I played it back I had to do a double-take. Something about the electric guitar tracks really stood out in the mix, and sounded amazing. I clicked into the channel strip settings to see what I had used. I expected it must have been some Amplitube 4 or Logic Amp simulator setting that I probably had spent hours tweaking.

To my surprise, the ONLY thing on the electric guitar tracks was the Waves CLA Guitars plugin.

Now I like Waves plugins, I have probably about 10 of them. Being a fan of Chris Lord-Alge, I picked up the CLA Signature Series bundle awhile back. I have used CLA Vocals fairly regularly, but kind of forgot about CLA Guitars for awhile.

The most important thing I realized about Waves CLA Guitars? Although there aren’t a TON of different settings and sounds available — what you have to use sits in the mix perfectly.

If you are recording demos, or are pitching songs and instrumentals for music libraries (where you need to crank out lots of instrumentals) — you want something that is quick and easy. This is exactly where CLA Guitars shines, and for this purpose it’s a great tool for any guitarist to have close at hand.
